Forbes: Brian Weiss, Co/Founder & CEO LA Cannabis News

Brian and I have much in common. His legacy is in the Motion Pictures industry as is my own. His grandfather was an industry legend, as was mine, whereas his grandfather was liked, mine was a difficult person, well proven with the David Begelman scandal still resonating in motion picture infamy. His grandfather was on the production side of the industry (William Morris Agency), whereas mine was more the business side (New York) of the movie biz. (Vice-Chairman of the board of Columbia Pictures) We have much in common with families and the stigmas surrounding cannabis, leading to our connection in cannabis journalism. I think what Brian is doing deserves a second look with his intellectually stimulating publication leading the way in cannabis news.

Warren Bobrow=WB: Tell me about your passion. What do you do? What does your day to day look like?

Brian Weiss=BW: I love cannabis and have since I was 15 years old. It began with a pipe, some schwag (dirt-ditch weed) and a few friends behind the Pacific Topanga movie theaters in Woodland Hills, CA in October 1993.

Now, almost 26 years later, I am the Co-Founder and CEO of CN Media and L.A. Cannabis News. Along with my Co-Founder and girlfriend Talia Rubin, together we continue to build this amazing cannabis media company.

My days are long and I work 6-7 days a week. I am up early, collecting the daily news, press releases and going through dozens of emails. I usually spend the next part of my morning posting the first batch of the days news and replying to emails. The rest of my day consists of meetings, phone calls and attending cannabis events and/or conferences. We act as media partners for as many cannabis events and conferences happening around L.A to help spread the word that we now exist. We also receive lots of products to review, which is always a nice part of the day.

WB: Talk to me about L.A. Cannabis News. What is your six-month plan? One year?

BW: We launched on April 20, 2018 and immediately started to grow. We had an amazing opportunity this past Fall/Winter 2018 to be apart of the Canopy-Boulder cannabis accelerator in Boulder, Colorado. This was an amazing experience for us as to have the opportunity to accelerate our new local cannabis media company.

L.A. Cannabis News is comprised of daily news, feature stories about social equity, policies, legalization, crime, people, cannabis and culture, a job board, an events board and a business directory covering the cannabis community in Los Angeles and the surrounding area. The city of Los Angeles and the surrounding counties represent the biggest cannabis market in the world, which translates to an excessive amount of news to be covered.

L.A. Cannabis News/CN Media isn’t just another cannabis media company. We cover the building blocks this industry was built upon which are local even hyper-Local.
