Greenspoon Marder Snags Vedder Price’s LA Litigation Head
Greenspoon Marder has brought on Germain Labat, former head of Vedder Price’s Los Angeles litigation group.
Greenspoon Marder, which added a third California office in Los Angeles last April, has hired veteran litigator Germain Labat to expand the outpost.
Labat, former head of Vedder Price’s Los Angeles litigation group, has joined Greenspoon Marder’s Los Angeles office, which is set to move into a larger space this summer. Labat said he found Greenspoon Marder to be a “better fit” for his practice in Los Angeles.
“I think Greenspoon offers the platform,” Labat said. “It is a true mid-market platform, so it offers more scalability and flexibility to … what really is in LA, which is more a mid-market business.”
Prior to the move, Labat spent the past four and a half years helping Chicago-based Vedder Price build out its presence in Los Angeles. Before that, he was at Mayer Brown’s Los Angeles office, where he practiced for over a decade and was promoted to partner in 2008.
“I was able to come in and open the Vedder office and now [I can] parlay both of those experiences,” Labat said. “I think I can take a lot of that learning of what the startup office experience is like and hopefully apply it here and do it even better and bigger.”
With 20 years of experience as a California lawyer, Labat has worked with both public and privately held clients across multiple sectors, including financial services, commercial real estate, cosmetics, health care, food and beverage, retail and technology.
In a statement, Greenspoon Marder co-managing director Gerry Greenspoon said: “As a seasoned litigator, Germain brings a wealth of knowledge to our firm. His diverse range of legal experience will allow us to continue to better serve our clients’ needs.”
