Police say men shot each other to death over drug deal disagreement

Police announced Thursday morning that the two men killed in North Long Beach last week actually shot each other during a marijuana deal gone wrong.

The June 5 shooting in the 5500 block of Atlantic Avenue left one man, 32-year-old Kevin Williams from Lynwood, dead in a parking lot. The other victim, later identified as 29-year-old Devaris Watson, was dropped off at a Gardena hospital by 26-year-old Marquise Harris, who then fled, police said.

Watson died at the hospital. Both he and Harris are from Memphis, Tennessee. Police originally said Watson was from Mississippi.

Police said the three men were “engaged in a transaction involving the sale of a large quantity of marijuana for cash,” when the gunfire erupted. Detectives believe the incident is isolated.

“Evidence suggests Williams and Watson disagreed over the terms of the deal and each brandished a firearm and shot at each other inside the vehicle, resulting in their death,” police said. It’s unclear how Williams’ body ended up outside the car where it was left in the parking lot.
